Upcoming Classes & News

There is still time to sign up for this next class. If you are a Paid Club Member, you are already registered. If you are interested in becoming a Club Member, the Founding Member Tier, $15 per month for as long as you are a member, will be closing on May 31, 2022. On June 1 it will just be a regular membership at $30 per month. Still a savings over the regular price of two classes. Click HERE for info and to sign up.

Tuesday, May 24 11am to 12:30pm and 7pm to 8:30pm

In this class, we will be playing with several ways to create amazing backgrounds to tangle on. Below is the list of items we will be using for sure. The idea is to play with as many items as we can to see what we can do with each medium. You can to participate right along with us – or watch and play with the concepts later. You will have access to both sessions, live and the replays. You don’t need to have ALL the items on the list below.

While this is a stand-alone class, on Tuesday, May 31st, we will share tangling techniques for tangling on the tiles created. In my research, this concept has been around for a while in different forms. I’ve seen it called Map Tangling (more recently) and Splat Tangling – I’ve added as many name options as I could find, Splodge, Splot, Splat, Splish, Splash (if you have that tune in your head now – sorry! Hahaha)

You don’t need to have ALL the items on the list below. This is what we will be playing with.

Items we will be using:

Paper:

  • Zentangle® Original Tiles
  • Watercolor or other type paper (that will stand up to getting wet)

Inks:

  • Drawing Ink
  • Alcohol Ink
  • Watercolor paint (Tube)
  • Food coloring
  • Tea, wine, who knows what else depending on what we have in the cupboard. hahaha!

Tools:

  • Silicone mat or something to protect your surface – this will get messy
  • Water – in a spray bottle
  • Water brush (or regular paint brush)
  • Liquid Dishwashing soap
  • Small Cup/s
  • Straws
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Salt

To register:

  • Become a Tangle Addicts Club Member – All paid classes included – Click HERE for info & to join.
  • The opportunity to be a Founding Member and get that special price will be ending on May 31, 2022
  • Eventbrite

  • Send $25 via Paypal using my email: heather@cc-es.com or paypal.me/bassoon9ic/25
  • OR contact me if none of these options work for you (heather@tangleaddicts.com).

Introducing a new tangle: Spinning Mooka

On today’s Tangle Time Sessions, we will be introducing a new tangle from our Tangle Addicts community, Cassie Armstrong. Enjoy Spinning Mooka!

Cassie created this in response to a challenge in another group to have a tangle published in Tangle All Arounds next book. (Super cool)

Here is her step-out if you post your results please use #spinningmooka (and #tangleaddicts, if you don’t mind).

We look forward to playing with it today!

Thanks Cassie!!!

  • Zentangle® Essentials: Zentangle® is more than just about tangling. Learn about the Zentangle Method and it’s essential techniques. Good to get you started in Zentangle®, for those that want to learn more about the method behind the tangling, and as a refresher for seasoned tanglers.
  • Black Tile Tangling: Devoting the entire session to working on Black tiles. Check descriptions when this is offered as the focus and tools you need will change.
  • Chiaroscuro Tangling (Renaissance (tan) Tiles): Devoting the entire session to working with the concept called Chiaroscuro – working on tan tiles and focusing on using dark (shading) and light (highlights) to achieve beautiful results. Check descriptions when this is offered as the focus and tools you need may change.
  • Gray Tile Tangling: Devoting the entire session to working on these new Gray tiles. Check descriptions when this is offered as the focus and tools you need will change.
  • String Theory: Focus on the idea of using strings, different ideas for creating a string – especially to be able to create one without hesitation. Also sharing some tangle ideas for the different strings.
  • Shades of Gray: A focus on shading techniques that will make your tangles POP!
  • Tranzending: A technique of layering tangles, creating tranzlucence as well as explore other shading and highlighting techniques. *NOTE* We will be working a completed tile, or work of yours.
  • Zendalas: Exploring the fun to be had on these round tiles – we may use some string templates or make up our own. Check descriptions when this is offered as the focus and tools you need will change.
  • Affirmation Tangles: Re-purpose old damaged books and create a meaningful, beautiful and one of a kind piece of art. We go beyond normal tangling. Your piece is uniquely you because you choose the words to highlight.  Choose your focus! Pick words that are powerful for you, that inspire you or heal you. If this is to be a gift, choose words that would be important to the recipient.
  • Tangled Monograms: Create a one of a kind monogram with your own handwriting, with my easy (yes easy) technique.
  • Tangle-in-Tangle: This is almost a series unto itself. Tangles like: Crazy Huggins, Dinsplatz, Waybop, and more where we have one tangle that becomes the string that we tangle on.
  • ZenGems, Dewdrops, and other tangle ornaments Exploring “Heather’s way” of creating these amazing ways to add some ornamentation to your tangling.
  • Zenbossing: Using a light toned paper, learn how to create a that embossed look. (“Heather’s way”)
  • 12 Shades of Gray: Concept by Sonya Yencer
  • Seasonal Tangling Specials:
    • Snowflakes (inspired by Tint’s on Tan Series) (link to come)
    • Spring Flowers (inspired by the Tint’s on Tan Series)
    • Seashells (inspired by the Tint’s on Tan Series)
    • Autumnal Tangles
    • Spooky Tangles (Halloween)
    • Festive Tangles (Christmasy)
  • More as I develop them.

**Access to all paid classes: Right now, when you subscribe, you will automatically be entered into the class and receive an email with class link from my GoMeet platform. (Some of you already get this for the Thursday Tangle Time sessions.) Thank you for your support!!

Crazy Huggins!

What a fun couple of sessions exploring Crazy Huggins. We started out with Huggins – regular style. THEN we broke the rules and went crazy. Crazy, meaning, it’s matter of randomizing or scattering the dot grid and then adding the “c”s of Huggins, come what may. Occasionally, you have to add a little Cadent “s” in to connect some of the dots, to make it work right. The list of tangles I shared is after the pictures – but know you can fill with any tangle you wish! If this makes NO sense to you – then, you may have to keep an eye out for the next Crazy Huggins class. (Or maybe a video – we’ll see.) In the meantime, enjoy the beautiful art we created today!!

p.s. Thank you to everyone that participated. It is such a joy to share and have Zentangle fun with you!!! Check back periodically by clicking the title of this blog to take you to the post on my site so you can see added pictures. To those that have supported these free classes directly or by purchasing Zentangle products from my site, THANK YOU!

Click on any picture to enlarge.

Tangles shared on the call: Huggins, Tipple, Flux (Rick’s Version), Keeko, Poke Root, N’Zepple, Printemps. Remember – you can use any tangle to fill. Happy Tangling!!!

Dingsplatz!

Getting caught up on posts here. On July 7th, we focused our attention to this wonderful, hodgepodge of tangles called Dingsplatz. Starting with a loop deloop deloop as the frame and string all in one, and adding tangles inside and outside of the structure.

There are three Dingsplatz’ presented on the video that is on the Zentangle® Blog.

I have drawn the step out for the first example and will be working on the other two. (Pg 1Pg 2) Enjoy the results from this first session – and give it a go! Feel free to share your result on any of the social media you can – links below. I have 2 sessions coming up tomorrow, Tuesday July 21st 11am and 7pm EDT. See my list of classes HERE.

I’m so grateful to everyone that is traveling on this Zentangle® journey with me. Happy Tangling!!!

Tangled Cookies!

It’s that time of year again for Tangling on Cookies!!  This is last year’s post from after the event. This year, I thought it would be good to re-post it ahead of time. Check my Facebook page or website for Tangle Cookie event days. Recipes are at the end of the post.

Denise’s:

Our “Ugly” sweaters. These had no frosting and the pens worked great, just have to wipe the tip frequently for crumbs.

We also did an ensemble (we each drew a section) sweater because we had one extra.

We also had with black frosting inspired by a Pinterest post, but didn’t turn out as described. We had fun with them anyway.

For the tangling, we used Wilton Foodwriters. They have two color sets Primary and Neon. We used fine and extra fine. I believe they may have a brush tip also. We also used a set of Betty Crocker Easy Writers. they are a very loose  brush tip,  where the Wilton’s are a felt tip like Crayola markers.  The Betty Crocker markers were great for blending and background color.

For 3D effects ,  we used Wilton’s Candy Decorating Pens. They come in a set of 4 colors and dry to a hard candy. To  use these you have to keep them in a cup of hot water to soften the candy up so it will flow. This makes it really difficult to draw with as we do with the markers plus the candy cools and hardens pretty fast.

Here are recipes for cookies and the icing – Thanks to my Mom, Cherie Hartwick, CZT, for these!

Tangled Cookies!

We had another great afternoon Zentangling cookies. The cookies are sugar cookies, some are frosted with royal icing, some were plain.
